|Shar Mountain Sky Extreme August 11th, 2018, Kosmet
Sky Race & Extreme (34km i 57km)
Please note that both races carry 50% more points for the ranking list of the 2018 League. The longer distance will carry the UTMB points. All trails are on the Kosmet side (one section goes along the border with Macedonia).
Sky Race starts at 7 AM from Strpce. There are 34 km with 3,000 m of ascent and 2,100 m of descent. The first checkpoint is at 9 km at the Repetitor at the Ski Center at Brezovica. The second checkpoint is at 14 km by Lake Livadica – this part of the track is quite impressive with narrow trails and an incredible view. After this section, you will come across the mini-vertical that leads to the ridge from where you will continue to the left towards Ljuboten. The next checkpoint is on the saddle below Ljuboten at 19 km. There is one extra checkpoint at the top. After that you will continue by the ridge to Piribreg where the fourth checkpoint and the highest point of the race is at 2,525 masl at 24 km. From there you will descend to the „Berevac holes“ where the refreshment will be stationed after which you will run towards the Molika Hotel in the Ski Center Brezovica where the finish will be set at 34 km at 1,700 masl.
The time limit is 4 PM, 9 hours from the start. Wherever you give up, you will have to walk to the Ski Center Brezovica.
Required equipment: a whistle, survival blanket, mobile phone, glass and windproof jacket. We recommend poles and bear bells. The required equipment will be checked at CP1, there will be no penalties, but automatic disqualification will enuse for all those that do not have any of the things listed. A cotton T-shirt will be a part of the starting package. You have to be semi-autonomous on the race – water and refreshments are mandatory part of your bag. Bear in mind that Shara is a harsh mountain, snow may fall in August, too.
Sky Extreme starts at the same time as Sky Race, with 57 km and 5.200 m of ascent and 4.100 m of descent ahead. First part of the track follows the same route as the Sky Race and proceeds to Crni kamen, Blatestice cirque and Jezerska cuka (peak) – bear in mind that these are even higher and harsher parts than Piribreg and Ljuboten. This is a very difficult terrain with technical sections, cliffs, frequent rock creeps and parts without a clear track, as is often the case with Sky Extreme formats. The finish will be at the same place – Molika Hotel at the Ski Center. What is important to know is that the hardest section of the track starts in the second part of the race and the limits will be harsh. 80% of the track has been recorded, some extra work will be done for which reason we will not go into details until June. What you need to know by then is that the applications will not be open as regular.
Following the procedure you will send us an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org with subject “Šara Extreme” after which you will receive a form to fill in. One thing will be mandatory for sure – you will have to pass the hardest part of the track with us in early July. This will be a mandatory test, only those who pass this section properly and with good time can participate in the race.
This format is rated as Ultra! The time limit is 14 hours from the start – up to 9 PM. The limits at the checkpoints wil be determined later on. Wherever you give up, you will have to walk to the Ski Center Brezovica.

An active T-shirt will be a part of the starting package. You have to be semi-autonomous on the race – water and refreshments are mandatory part of your bag. Bear in mind that Shara is a harsh mountain, snow may fall in August, too.

Bus and Race Office
The bus departs from Belgrade on August 10th at 8 AM from the Kombank Arena parking lot. The ride to Strpce is 10-hour long. After Strpce the bus will drive on to Ski Center Brezovica and on Saturday morning it will take the participants to the start. It will be returning to Belgrade on Sunday evening (the exact time will be provided soon). The first 50 applicants who pay the registration fee are eligible for the participant bus at an extra fee of 1,200 RSD (10 euro). Race office position will be provided with the final instructions in July, most probably it will be set at Brezovica (ski center). Everyone is required to come in person and take the starting package and sign the statement of responsibility. For Extreme trail participants, a sports medical examination is mandatory, not older than 6 months. All those under the age of 18 can participate only in a shorter race with the certified consent of their parents. You will leave your drop bags in the race office at Molika Hotel where they will be waiting for you. The awarding ceremony for both distances will be held here with lunch for all the participants at the finish line. Finisher medals will be awarded at the race office. A bus from Skopje will be organized free of charge for our colleague runners from Macedonia (Skopje – Strpce – Brezovica – Skopje) on Friday and Sunday.
In case of bad weather, the race will be delayed for Sunday, August 12th. In case of bad weather conditions, we reserve the right to change certain parts of the tracks.
Accomodation - There is an option to sleep in the school hall in Strpce free of charge. There is also a lot of ethno accommodation, but we recommend the Ski Center Brezovica where the finish will be set and where the participant bus will take you to on Friday and from where you will be taken to the start on Saturday morning. More information about accommodation will follow. MTS network is the only one operational here.
The prize fund will be announced no later than June 15th.
Each competitor must wear their starting number clearly visible on front side before every checkpoint, otherwise disqualification will ensue. Loss of the starting number means automatic disqualification.
Link to weather forecast
* There is a possibility of 10-15% change of the mentioned trails. In case we manage to clear a part of the path to Ljuboten, it is quite possible that the track from Strpce through the Demir Gate and Copura will go directly to the saddle and not over the Repetitor. We will know for sure in June, however it will not greatly affect the mileage and the ascent. Everything sticks more or less to the above-mentioned frame.
Shvatite ovu trku ozbiljno. Go for it!
